6 Days Ngorongoro Highlands Walking Safaris

Hiking and walking tour in Ngorongoro and Lake Natron

Over view

  • >>Enjoy an exciting walking Safari in Ngorongoro
  • >>Check out the natural beauty of Lake Natron
  • >>Discover the best of African wildlife on this exciting journey into the wild
This walking safari in Arusha National Park, Ngorongoro and Lake Natron will let you walk to the top of Oldonyo Lengai Mountain which might be a bit steep, but offers an extraordinary experience for those who wish to view the insides of an active volcano. The summit reaches the height of about 9,000 feet.

The climb and descent takes an entire day. The views from the top include the Crater Highlands, Lake Natron and a glimpse into Kenya. A visit to this area isn’t complete without seeing Lake Natron. This soda lake is located on the Kenyan border, and is seldom visited, but well-known for its huge populations Lesser and Greater flamingos. The area around the lake is also inhabited by ostriches, zebra, giraffe and the occasional Thompson gazelle.

This safari also lets you consider giving some of your time, skills or just donations to make a difference for worthy causes. It presents an opportunity to interact with the local community in projects that are truly making a huge impact in the community. We give you an opportunity to become a part of such a programme usually for a day or two towards the end of your tour.

This could be helping in building class rooms, a health clinic, teaching life skills or simply bring in donations to help school children that sort of thing.

Day 1: Arrive in Arusha.
Arrive anytime at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). We will arrange a private transfer from the airport to Green Mountain Lodge, where the rest of the day is at leisure. The Green Mountain Lodge is beautifully located on the slope of Mt. Meru and is a perfect place to prepare for your adventure. We will gather in the hotel for a pre-walking briefing and an equipment check. We will also confirm you have the appropriate mandatory medical coverage and travel insurance. Overnight at Green Mountain lodge.

Meals Included: Dinner

Day 2: Walking Safari in Arusha National Park.
We depart for Arusha National Park to start our two day tour of the park. Today, we will enjoy a game drive and foot safari to the lower slopes of Mt. Meru. Day 3: Olmoti and Empakai Crater.
After breakfast, depart to Olmoti Crater for a half day walk. Often we meet Maasai on the way to the waterfalls at the crater. Around afternoon, we proceed to our base camp at the Empakaai Crater (special campsite). Experience the serenity and quiet beauty of this place and discover local springs, where you frequently see lots of wildlife. The lake is also full of flamingoes. Overnight at the special campsite.

Today we start walking from Empakaai to Lake Natron. We descend the outer hills of the Great Rift Valley and walk through the vast open plains of the Embulbul depression, passing through the Naiobi village. 8 Days Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route

Not only is this the highest peak on the African continent; it is also the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, rising in breathtaking isolation from the surrounding coastal scrubland – elevation around 900 metres – to an imperious 5,895 metres (19,336 feet). Kilimanjaro is one of the world's most accessible high summits a beacon for visitors from around the world. Most climbers reach the crater rim with little more than a walking stick, proper clothing and determination. And those who reach Uhuru Point, the actual summit, or Gillman's Point on the lip of the crater,...

5 Days Primates Tanzania Safaris
5 Days Primates Tanzania Safaris

Gombe is the smallest of Tanzania's national parks: a fragile strip of chimpanzee habitat straddling the steep slopes and river valleys that hem in the sandy northern shore of Lake Tanganyika. Its chimpanzees – habituated to human visitors – were made famous by the pioneering work of Jane Goodall, who in 1960 founded a behavioural research program that now stands as the longest-running study of its kind in the world. The matriarch Fifi, the last surviving member of the original community, only three-years old when Goodall first set foot in Gombe, is still regularly seen by visitors. 5...
